NerdSEQ MIDI Backup / Restore
Two-way file transfer with a NerdSEQ over MIDI SysEx. Receive
project backups (verified, saved as files) and send files
back to the NerdSEQ.
Requirements
- Use Chrome or Edge (Web MIDI + SysEx).
- The page must run over
https:// or localhost —
opening the file directly will not be granted SysEx access.
Both cables. Transfers are acknowledged in both directions,
so MIDI must run to the NerdSEQ and back. Select a
MIDI Input as well as a MIDI Output.
Receiving a backup
- Pick your NerdSEQ from MIDI Input (or leave “All inputs”),
and a MIDI Output so this page can acknowledge each block.
- Start a backup on the NerdSEQ. Each verified file downloads automatically;
a corrupted block is re-sent automatically, and a file that still fails its
checksum is discarded rather than saved.
Sending a file
- Pick your NerdSEQ from MIDI Output and MIDI Input.
- Drop a file (or “Choose file…”). Allowed:
.NRD .MAP .PTN .DCP .WAV .RAW .HEX .VEX .NXP.
Files are filed on the NerdSEQ by extension (projects / samples / firmware).
- Click Upload. You do not have to open a particular screen
on the NerdSEQ any more — it accepts a transfer from anywhere, shows the filename,
and waits 10 s for you to press START to accept or
STOP to decline. A countdown appears here meanwhile.
- Stop playback first. The NerdSEQ refuses transfers while the
sequencer is running rather than interrupting it.
- To update firmware, click Update Now! (top right) — it
stages the bundled
nerdseq.hex ready to upload the same way.
- Transfer is paced to the MIDI rate, so large samples take a while. An existing
file on the NerdSEQ is moved aside to a
backup folder, not overwritten.
What the messages mean
- The NerdSEQ answers before anything is sent, so a wrong screen, a full card
or a missing cable is reported straight away instead of after a long upload.
- A transfer is not finished when the bytes have gone. The
NerdSEQ still has to verify, unpack and file it — and for VEX shader files,
send it on to the VEX. The “Finishing on the NerdSEQ” window tracks that;
“Upload complete” only appears once the NerdSEQ confirms the whole thing.
- If the NerdSEQ asks you to confirm the transfer on the device, a countdown
appears here until you accept or decline on the NerdSEQ.
